The European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) welcomes the public commitment of the High Representative, Ms Federica Mogherini to update the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy in the upcoming year.

In a statement to commemorate the International Human Rights Day (December 10), Ms Mogherini today pledged to reaffirm the EU’s commitment of protecting human rights and democracy across the globe, and indicated that a renewed Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy would be designed in 2015.

EPD, as a Community of Practice, looks forward to use its extensive network and wealth of expertise to contribute to the debate on a revamped Action Plan and calls on the EU, its Member States and civil society to lead the front in championing the respect for human rights and democracy. EPD believes that human rights and democracy are cornerstone EU values, and this special status needs to be reflected in EU policies and rhetoric.
